easyJet, the UK’s largest airline has today announced a further new route from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA), with flights to Lyon in France due to commence later this year in December 2010.

Lyon is characterised by classical French architecture, Renaissance-style buildings and outstanding cuisine, boasting delectable local specialities and quaint bistros. Day or night, this attractive city has much to offer and set in the Rhone Alps area is a gateway to many outstanding ski resorts.

Robin Tudor, Peel Airports’ Head of PR commented, “This additional service means we now have eight French destinations on sale from Liverpool, covering a range of key areas across France. Lyon and its surrounding areas form the second largest metropolitan area in France after that of Paris and this new route should prove popular not only for North West passengers but also for French visitors now able to fly low cost direct to Liverpool for the first time.”

easyJet also expects more new routes to be announced later this year.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Commercial Manager, added, “Lyon is both a popular winter and summer destination. And with flights from £25.99 one-way, we’re making it even more accessible.

“easyJet now offers a total of 28 routes from Liverpool and we plan to expand further from this key base to provide even more choice to travellers. The secret to our success is offering the lowest fares, to the most convenient airports.”

Flights go on sale today with fares from £25.99 one-way (inc. taxes). The first flight is scheduled to fly on Saturday 18th December.
