Flybe, Europe’s leading regional airline and the UK’s Number One domestic carrier marked an important milestone at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) yesterday with its 700,000th passenger travelling through the airport.

It was Catherine Gercs from Rugby, travelling with her friend Clare Williams from Wirral, on the airline’s 17:35 departure to Belfast City yesterday, who triggered a presentation to mark the special occasion. The two Liverpool university students were heading to the Oxegen music festival in Ireland and were presented with a bottle of Champagne by Peel Airports’ Aviation Development Manager, Chris Harcombe.

With convenient schedules aimed at giving passengers maximum flexibility, whether travelling for business or leisure, Flybe’s operation at LJLA complements the attraction of the airport for the region’s travellers. The airport has invested over £12m over the past 18 months improving the passenger security search area and bringing in a number of new and exciting retail developments, enhancing the passenger experience.

Last October, Flybe strengthened its commitment to Liverpool by adding a new service to George Best Belfast City Airport that operates three times a day. This new service is in addition to the airline’s well-established Isle of Man service that began some three years’ ago and operates up to four return flights a day.

Chris Harcombe, commented, "We’re delighted with how quickly Flybe has reached this milestone at Liverpool, which shows just how popular their services to Belfast City and the Isle of Man are with the region’s travelers. Added to the recent airport improvements here at Liverpool, we expect flights to these two destinations with Flybe to continue to perform well."

Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mike Rutter added: "We are delighted to celebrate our 700,000th passenger at Liverpool. We remain committed to providing convenient and affordable travel options to Belfast City and the Isle of Man and look forward to welcoming our one millionth passenger on board in the not too distant future!"
