How to prepare for a summer holiday

Jetting off for a week or two over the summer is a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of working life, whether you’re dreaming of a sun-soaked beach relaxation experience or an exhilarating adventure of a lifetime. No matter what your destination, you want to get there as smoothly as possible so you don’t have to start your holiday in a panic.

Here are our tips to help you prepare for your summer holiday.

Book early

Booking your holiday as early as you can helps to make sure you’ve got a great range of choices - from airline seats, to accommodation, to car hire and parking. If you book too close to your planned departure date, your holiday resort could end up being more of a last resort. Planning ahead also helps you to make the most of your holiday - and it might even be cheaper!

Ensure travel documents are up to date

It’s not the most exciting part of booking a holiday, but it’s important to get your paperwork in order. Passports, boarding passes, vaccination certificates, entry visas - whatever you need for your trip, make sure you’ve got it all to hand. Remember, it can take up to six weeks to renew a passport, and longer if you’re applying for your first one, so leave plenty of time to allow for this.

Although it can be tempting to just have digital versions of all your paperwork so you don’t have to carry it around, this isn’t always the best option. Smartphones and digital devices can fail - and you don’t want to get all the way to the airport before you realise you can’t access your documents. It’s best to carry both digital and physical versions to be as prepared as possible.

Check your insurance

We don’t like to think about things going wrong when we’re on holiday, but it can happen. Making sure you’ve got the right insurance in place to give you cover just in case can help to take some of the stress out of things. Check your insurance well in advance of your holiday to give yourself enough time if anything needs altering.

Put together an itinerary

Picture the scene. You’ve made it to your destination, you’ve unpacked your luggage at your accommodation, and you’ve taken your first holiday snap to show your friends. Now what? One way to make the most of your holiday is to plan a schedule of things to do. That way, you can make sure you don’t miss out on anything.

Your itinerary doesn’t have to account for every last minute of your holiday - it doesn’t have to be restrictive at all. It could be as simple as a list of activities you want to do with notes on opening times, weather restrictions and how long they’ll take. Alternatively, you could plan your itinerary using an online calendar so you can move activities around as your plans change.

Organise travel to the airport or airport car parking

Finally, you’ll need to decide how you’re going to get to the airport. For many, travelling in the comfort of their own vehicle is the most convenient option. If this is your plan, it’s a good idea to book your airport parking before you arrive for your flight. At Liverpool Airport, we offer both long stay parking and short stay parking depending on how long your trip is, as well as fast track family parking. If you are not driving yourself, some forms of public transport offer services that go direct to LJLA . If you have a lot of luggage, you might want to consider booking a taxi so you’re not cramping other passengers.

When to book airport car parking

It’s best to book your airport car parking as early as you can to avoid missing out. Pre-booking is often cheaper than turning up on the day, and with our official onsite parking, the earlier you book, the bigger the discount - up to 70%. Like with many other aspects of getting ready for your summer holiday, preparing your airport car parking early helps to avoid any last minute worries.

At LJLA, we also offer fast track security passes and luxurious lounge packages. Whilst we don't often experience long queues, the peace of mind of fast track security and the comfort of one of our lounge packages may be too much to resist!
