More than 1700 Everton fans are due to fly out from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) on Thursday ahead of their team’s away game with German Bundesliga team Nurnberg in this season’s UEFA Cup.

In addition to the Everton team who departed from the Airport earlier today along with another flight of fans, LJLA will handle an additional 8 flights early tomorrow morning which have been specifically chartered to take fans to Nuremberg Airport.

Both Merseyside clubs are regular users of the Airport and LJLA is well versed in accommodating large numbers of travelling football fans in a short space of time. In May some 7,000 Liverpool fans travelling on 37 extra flights set off from the Airport to Athens in time for the Champions League Final.

Robin Tudor, LJLA’s General Manager Corporate and Community Affairs, commented: “Everton fans are clearly relishing the opportunity to support their team in Europe this season, travelling in large numbers on a number of flights from here.

The Airport is delighted that this season fans from both Merseyside clubs have the opportunity to support their team by travelling from their local airport. It’s also good news for the many ‘blues’ staff at the Airport who’ve suffered in silence in recent years assisting with departures for Liverpool players and fans.”
