In the build up to the world famous steeplechase at Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) is expecting record numbers of racegoers to pass through en-route to this year’s three day event.

Many of the 5,500 passengers expected to arrive over the next few days on flights from the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and The Isle of Man, are believed to be flying in, in time for races tomorrow, Ladies Day on Friday and the Grand National on Saturday. LJLA now has more services to and from destinations traditionally popular with racing enthusiasts and flights from Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Belfast International, Belfast City and Derry Airports are expected to see passenger loads up to 15% higher than at other times. Around 50 inbound flights are scheduled to arrive at LJLA over the next two days from these destinations.

Robin Tudor – General Manager of Corporate and Community Affairs, said: “This is the third weekend in a row that LJLA will have been particularly busy with passengers travelling during the Easter getaway followed by last weekend’s Liverpool versus Everton derby match. It would appear that passengers are taking advantage of the many low-cost fares from Ireland, Northern Ireland and Isle of Man. The Airport is also expecting a number of private flights to and from London over the coming few days for both the Grand National and Liverpool’s two games with Arsenal.”
