It was the start of a double celebration today at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) with the news that Ryanair had passed the 18 million passenger milestone which coincided with the start of the Airport’s jubilee themed passenger activities.

Since Ryanair first commenced operations from the Airport in 1988, they have now carried 18 million passengers via LJLA and currently operate to over 36 destinations across Europe.

With the start of the Whit school half term holidays and the extra Bank holiday, the airport expects another busy weekend with passengers taking the opportunity to get away during the holiday period. However to help make sure passengers don’t miss out on the Jubilee celebrations, the Airport organised a jazz band to entertain passengers in the departure lounge with free tastings and samplings at various food outlets and even sample cocktails at one of the bars along with images of some of the ‘Royals’ helping out too.

Robin Tudor, Head of PR for Peel Airports commented, "Ryanair have continued to bring the region’s passengers a growing choice of popular destinations from their local airport and today’s milestone highlights the level of business they have brought to the airport over the years. Combined with our jubilee celebrations it’s been a real party atmosphere here today."

Ryanair’s Maria Macken said "Ryanair is delighted to join in the jubilee celebrations at LJLA as we welcome our 18 millionth passenger at the airport since operations commenced back in 1988. This summer Ryanair will offer passengers in the North West a choice of over 35 top destinations from Liverpool including our newly announced route to Warsaw Modlin."
