If you’re looking to get away to a city like no other, Hungary’s capital Budapest could be your answer. With just over a 2 hour flight from Liverpool, this is fast becoming one of Europe’s best-value cities in terms of things to do, city travel, accommodation and food. Known as the Paris of the East, culture and history is embedded into the streets and architecture of the city, as well as having plenty of activities to keep you occupied during your stay. Attracting over 20 million visitors per year, Budapest should be a must on your travel list for 2016.

In terms of sightseeing, Budapest’s Parliament building is a majestic example of neo-gothic architecture and you can either marvel at it from outside, or take a guided tour of over 12.5 miles of corridors. Budapest is also known as the ‘Spa Capital of the World’, so for a chance to unwind, visit the indoor and outdoor natural pools of Széchenyi Baths.

The Danube River separates Buda from Pest and with just a walk down its banks, you will find the ‘Shoes on the Danube Bank’ memorial. Segway tours are also a fun way to explore this charming city, but we would definitely recommend a visit to the spectacular waterfront and Chain Bridge at night.
