If you’re flying from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) this summer, make your journey through the airport as smooth as possible with our top tips:

#1 Arrive early to the airport

As summer is the busiest time of the year for LJLA, we recommend passengers arrive at least two hours before their flight is due to depart. This way, you will have plenty of time to get yourself organised, pass through Security and relax without the added stress of running late and potentially missing your flight! See our terminal map here.

#2 Pre-book your car parking

Pre-book your airport parking and save up to 70%! A pre-booking can be made up until 4 hours before you are due to arrive at the car park and guarantees you a parking space during the busy summer months. You can book official onsite parking here.

#3 Think carefully when packing hand luggage

All items in hand luggage are subject to search as part of the aviation security measures that are currently in place at all UK airports.  To avoid disappointment at the security search point and to help keep security queues to a minimum, we ask passengers keep items such as liquids and creams in hand luggage to a minimum and only then if they comply with the regulations. For more information about security measures please click here.

#4 Pre-prepare your liquids before you arrive

Pre-prepare your liquids in 100ml containers and keep them separate from your hand luggage, in a clear resealable 20x20cm bag. This will make the security search process a lot quicker so you’ll have more time to relax before your flight.

Plastic bags are available to buy from vending machines at Security, 4 bags for £1. For more information on airport security please visit here.

#5 Save time and skip the queues

At LJLA our security staff work as hard as possible to ensure security checks are quick and efficient but inevitably during the busy summer period this process can take time. Fast Track dramatically reduces your queuing time and gives you more time to enjoy relaxing at the airport before your flight, whether you want to do some last minute shopping, grab a bite to eat or relax with a drink.

Fast Track is available to all passengers from only £4 per person when you book online – a saving of 20% on the walk-up price of £5 per person. You can also book Fast Track airport parking here.

#6 Pre-order your baby food or formula to pick up at the airport

If you are concerned about taking baby food or formula through airport security at LJLA, don’t worry. Boots offers and in-store ordering service via their website; choose your products and pay online, and your items can be picked up on the day of your flight. This is extremely helpful for parents who can pre-order baby food and formula and collect it when they are in the Departure Lounge. Boots is located in the Departure Lounge after Security, on both the Upper Level and Lower Level. For more information, take a look at our terminal map.

Please note:  Baby milk can be taken through Security – as much can be taken as is needed for the journey. The baby must be travelling in order to qualify for these allowances, further information can be found here.

#7 Make the most of tax-free shopping

Once you are through Security and in the Departure Lounge, you can discover fantastic savings you won’t find on the high street and shop tax-free in a selection of shops. Plus, if you shop in the airport, you can now take a standard sized airport shopping bag with you on ANY flight in addition to your hand luggage!

Passengers travelling to countries or areas considered to be outside the EU are able to purchase items that are exempt from excise duty. This means that further savings can be made against certain products, but there are limits on how much may be imported back into the UK on the return flight. For more information, please visit the World Duty Free website.

#8 Fuel up before your flight

Whether you’re after that early morning caffeine boost, a cosy family meal or cocktails with pretty runway views there’s something for everyone at LJLA. Check out what restaurants are available at the airport, menus and opening times here.
