In the same week that the world’s leading air travel intelligence company, OAG awarded Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) a 5-star rating for flight punctuality, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) have today published their latest report on the accessibility services provided by the top 30 UK airports with Liverpool listed in the highest ‘very good’ category.

The CAA assesses airports against a number of measures to establish how well they are performing for disabled passengers, including asking those passengers using the assistance service how it performed for them.

Of the 30 airports reviewed, Liverpool was one of 16 rated in the highest “very good” category. The report highlighted that ‘Liverpool has had an excellent year, providing a very good level of assistance to its disabled passengers and those with reduced mobility, and that ‘Liverpool has provided an efficient, timely service to passengers throughout the year, with 88% of people rating their experience as excellent or good’.

The report also highlights that despite rising numbers of passengers requiring assistance, the staff at airports such as Liverpool have worked hard to ensure standards are maintained; that waiting times are kept short; and that users of the assistance service are treated with dignity, care and attention. Staff have also all worked closely with local disability organisations or individuals so that they can better design their assistance to meet the needs of disabled passengers.

The passenger assistance service at LJLA is provided by Ominserv and Lisa Crosby, Contracts Co-ordinator for LJLA who oversees the Omniserv contract commented, “We are all delighted to hear that the feedback from those passengers who need assistance here at the Airport has been so positive.

Staff from both the Airport Company and our service provider Omniserv work hard to make sure that all passengers can take advantage of Liverpool’s faster, easier, friendlier customer experience, whether able bodied or if they require assistance. We want to encourage passengers with a diverse range of disabilities to choose to fly from Liverpool.”
